Tea with Dorothy Draper.

I have recently been reading about decorator, Dorothy Draper and i'm especially paying attention to her work at the Greenbrier hotel in West Virginia.  I remember visiting the Greenbrier when I was young and have held onto some ideas since then. What particularly stands out to me is the abundance of Kelly Green. If you go to the afternoon 4:00 high tea, you will notice, green stripes, green teacups, green carpet, wallpaper, and so on. You tend to think... How did she so tactfully pull this off? This is why I admire Dorothy's taste. She definitely followed her own style and it doesn't look as though she was afraid to use many different patterns together. I would just love to have a cup of tea with her today.
Can you tell where inspiration for this dress came from?

Santa Barbara Charm

I just watch the movie "Its Complicated" starring Meryl Streep. I have seen this movie many times. I'm not so interested in the story-line so much as in the charming style of the movie. The kitchen in the movie would be anyone's dream! Here are some things that I've found to fit with this style. 1. Rattan Riverside Baskets 2. Gabi Throw Blanket  3. Maggie's Harvest Cookbook 4. No. Two Tom Pots

Also, here is a really great video that Kinfolk Magazine featured on how to make Pesto.

Custom

I love listening to a bride's ideas and creating flower girl attire that best fits her vision. Here is a mood board that I  put together for a citrus colored wedding. Photos via pinterest, floral designs by Amy Merrick, and a couple of my designs that you can find currently at Sugar Snap Pea in Charleston.  p.s. don't you just want to take a bite out of that cake!

Strawberries+Cream

The Springtime snack that never gets old.

Making Buttons

Handmade covered buttons just add something special to a dress. Since I had left over fabric after this dress was finished, I decided to put it to good use.
